These beetles are mostly found on carrion, where the larvae feed on the carcass and adults feed both on the carcass and live insects, especially fly larvae. There are two generations per year and adults of the second generation overwinter. This species is widespread in the north and is also found in Eurasia. See a full view of an adult here.
