Get curious and explore with your whole family!

The Missoula Butterfly House & Insectarium firmly believes that learning is fun for the whole family.  From our monthly Story Times to sensory-friendly quiet hours to weekend learning opportunities.  Check out the calendar for what programs are coming up!

Lil’ Bug Story Time

Visitors act out the butterfly life cycle after reading The Very Impatient Caterpillar by Ross Burach.

Join us on the third Wednesday of the month from 10:30 – 11:00 for Lil’ Bugs Story Time. We’ll read a fun, bug-themed book and do a simple craft together afterwards. This activity is included with paid admission and free to members.

Sensory Hour

Do you have a kiddo who is sensitive to loud and active spaces? We want everyone to enjoy their time at MBHI, so if this sounds like your little one, consider bringing them to our sensory-friendly hour! We will open early for this hour and turn off fans, heaters, foggers, and anything else that makes extra noise in the museum. Some Things to Keep in Mind:

  • The animal encounter area will not be open during these hours.
  • The staff will be quietyly working to ready the museum for our regular open hours.
  • Art supplies are welcome but must adhere to UDSA guidelines (no large bags over 12” x 12”, no monopods/tripods).

Excess noise will be kept to a minimum (fans and foggers off, etc.) but noise-canceling headphones are welcome and encouraged if needed.
