As temperatures rise outside, you can expect even warmer temperatures inside our tropical Butterfly House. For the safety of our staff, volunteers, and guests, we will close the greenhouse if temperatures reach over 100 degrees. We realize this will impact your visit, so when the Butterfly House is closed, we will offer discounted ticket rates and refunds for those who purchased tickets ahead of time.

We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we mitigate the issue.

Will this regulation be in place all summer?

No! Thankfully, we are in the process of acquiring a new cooling system for our greenhouse. We expect the new system to be in place in the next month or so, so you can enjoy the Butterfly House all summer long without the risk of heat exhaustion.

Yes! The Insectarium will still be open and activities will take place as usual. And with our new honeybee colony and leafcutter ant exhibit (coming soon!), there is still plenty to see and explore!

When the tropical Butterfly House is closed, admission will cost $5 for all guests.

Temperatures are still low enough in the morning to allow visitor access to the tropical butterfly house. If you are planning a visit, the best times are between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM.

Know the Risks

Heat exhaustion can set in before greenhouse temperatures reach triple digits. Be sure to dress accordingly, take breaks to cool off and drink water, and limit your time in the greenhouse when temperatures are high.
