Our Development Director recently appeared on the news to talk about the high volume of praying mantis sightings in the Missoula area. Perhaps you’ve seen one, two, or even a few this year. We have long wondered if we are getting mantises through natural reproduction, in addition to introductions. We have a confirmed report out of the National Bison Range, but need more evidence. We have tasked Emma, one of our younger bug hunters, to keep an eye on the egg case (ootheca) appearing in the photo. Will the nymphs emerge in May? Only time will tell. If you have an egg case on your property we would love to hear about your observations too!
