This moth is a little over a 1/4 inch long …and quite handsome, with head scales that appear to have been combed back and wings fringed in brown and white. The concealer moth family (Oecophoridae) is not a reference to makeup, rather to the larvae developing in silken webbing or in concealed niches made by tying or rolling leaves together. Although many species feed on leaves as larvae, this particular one feeds on fungi and molds that collect in cracks of bark. There are scattered records across Canada and the northern United States, California to Arizona and Colorado, with adults flying mainly in June and July in the north.
