We’ve only ever found the shed exoskeletons of the nymphs before. Never the living thing. Cicada nymphs generally spend all of their time underground, where they tap into roots and suck sap. After several years, this fellow journeyed to the surface and was likely in the process of finding a spot to molt. It’s tough to guess the species until the adult emerges and the exoskeleton hardens.
