With a wingspan of up to 3.5 inches, these moths are impressive in both appearance and size. They can be found coast to coast in the northern United States, plus all of Canada (including the arctic) and into Alaska. In the western states, to the west coast, they can be found as far south as Baja California Norte and western Texas. They prefer valley and streamside habitats, with caterpillars feeding on willows and poplar. Take a peek at the gorgeous, eyelike spots on the hindwings.
