We can tell right away that this is a male, because strangely enough the females don’t have wings! These early season moths can be found from January to April (March and April here in Montana) and range from Wyoming and Utah, west to British Columbia and California. Caterpillars feed on Antelope Bitterbrush (Purshia tridentata), walnut, and willow and are convincing twig mimics.
