Bugs and Brews

What happens when you mix after hours access to the Insectarium, local beers and a fascinating expert lecturer? You get the Missoula Insectarium’s evening lecture series: “Bugs and Brews”! This program is designed for adults who want to explore the world of arthropods with a cold beverage in hand.

Past Bugs and Brews Speakers and Topics:

April 2016: Sharman Apt Russle: Chasing Tiger Beetles in the New World of Citizen Science
October 2015: Doug Emlen: Extravagant Weapons: The Story Behind Arms Races in Animals and People

Artist in Residency Program

In the spring of 2016 the Insectarium started the first ever Arthropods and Artists in Residency Program. This evolving program grants after hours access to our resident bugs to our Artist in Residence to render in the medium of their choosing. Artists lead educational programs for Insectarium guests and premier their work during a First Friday event. For Spring 2016 our Artist in Residence is Bayla Arietta a watercolor artist with extensive experience teaching painting, drawing, printmaking, and bookbinding to all ages. If you are interested in participating in this program as an artist in residence, please email us at

Birthday Parties

The Missoula Insectarium now hosts birthday parties! We’re not ones to brag but we were recently told by a very happy birthday boy that we had just thrown the “BEST BIRTHDAY PARTY EVER”! Now that is a ringing endorsement! Birthday parties at the Insectarium are fun and educational in our classroom party space. All parties come with the opportunity to meet some live Bug Ambassadors and celebrate your youngest bug lover’s birthday with all their friends and family. For details, visit our Parties Page
