We offer a variety of programs with our friendly bug ambassadors. Check them out below!

After four years of offering exciting and engaging field trips at our downtown location, the Missoula Insectarium is ready to get its wings! In the summer of 2019 our lease ran out, but a new, state-of-the-art facility is being built in partnership with the Missoula County Weed District & Extension Service. The new facility is located at the fairgrounds and will feature a larger classroom, tropical butterfly house, larger exhibit space, outdoor classroom, demonstration gardens and more. As we transform we will offer in-class programs to the Missoula area.

In the fall of 2019 we began taking the show on the road. Each field trip brings Bug Ambassadors into teachers’ classrooms, features an enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructor, and is aligned with Next Generation Science Standards.

Thanks to an exciting partnership with the Montana Natural History Center, we are able to offer Insectarium field trip experiences at their location on Hickory Street, near McCormick Park. Your class can still experience innovative, exciting educational programs, all paired with live Bug Ambassadors, using the MNHC classroom and exhibit space. Offering programs at MNHC allows for partnering beyond classroom sharing too – now teachers can schedule a full day of programming for their entire grade level with activities from both the Montana Natural History Center and the Missoula Butterfly House and Insectarium!

Considering a field trip at spectrUM Discovery Area? Why not have the bugs meet you there!

We have developed an exciting and fun set of programs available to anyone with an internet connection and webcam. Each program features live Bug Ambassadors, a knowledgeable presenter, supports NGSS standards, and includes complete technical support. We typically work with grades K – 5 but are able to adapt most programs for middle and high school level students as well.

We’re not ones to brag but, we were recently told by a very happy birthday boy that we had just thrown the “BEST BIRTHDAY PARTY EVER”! Now that is a ringing endorsement. With our Bug Birthday Bash, our bugs will make an appearance at your party.

A unique and adventurous dining journey into entomophagy, otherwise known as “the eating of insects as food.” Learn more about our annual fundraising dinner at Burns St. Bistro.

What happens when you mix local beers and a fascinating expert bug lecturer? You get the Missoula Butterfly House and Insectarium’s evening lecture series: “Bugs and Brews”! Every month we will have a new expert lecturer discuss a fascinating topic relating to bugs. Some of our past talks have been on Animal Weapons, Pests, Native Bees, Sea Spiders and more! We want to give a huge THANK YOU to our primary sponsor of our unique lecture series: Draught Works!
