This beautiful moth, nectaring on a a late-season pollinator magnet (Smooth Blue Aster), is primarily found throughout much of the west (west of the Mississippi), from Alaska south to northern Mexico. Adults can be found in a variety of habitats from May to October in the north, suggesting multiple generations in one season. Caterpillars feed on a wide variety of plants. They particularly like alfalfa and peas, making them a potential crop pest. Unlike most moths, they are active day and night.
