Ten-lined June Beetle (Polyphylla decemlineata):  At up to 1.5 inches in length, these beetles are hard to miss when they are around. These large beetles can be found across the western half of North America. When disturbed, they make a hissing sound by rubbing their abdomen against the inside of their wing covers. They are attracted to lights at night. Photo by Morgan McNeill on 8/20/18 in Missoula, MT.
