Cryptically patterned and nocturnal, these spring-flying moths range across northern North America to the East Coast. In the Rocky Mountain region they can be found in mixed hardwood-conifer forests at middle elevations and also in high elevation spruce-fir forests along the summit. Caterpillars are generalists, feeding on many kinds of hardwoods.
