This one had us stumped for a while. It was not until we saw the upturned genital bulb at the end of the abdomen (seen in the vertical photo) that we figured out this was a species of Short-Faced Scorpionfly (possibly Brachypanorpa montana). There are only 4 species in this genus in the Pacific Northwest. They appear to be pretty rare with not much information about their lives. Photo by Glenn Marangelo on 7/19/19 near Stevensville, MT.
