Glenn netted this boldly marked day-flying moth during a butterfly count in the Rattlesnake Recreation Area. Taking turns, the count’s group members admired its beauty, which arguably rivaled many of the butterflies found that day. These moths fly in meadows of western North America in early summer. Like other tiger moth caterpillars, the Ranchman’s is densely hairy …and downright adorable. They are not picky eaters, feeding on foliage of various herbaceous plants.
