Something looks a little different about this orb weaver. The males have already died off after mating. Females at this time of year are BIG with abdomens full of eggs. But this female looks a bit “deflated”. Our guess was that she just finished laying an egg sac (which will survive the winter) and had nothing left “in the tank”. Our photographer followed up with a confirmation that an egg sac was found near her. Not sure if our guess is correct, but certainly seems possible.
