Herald Moth (Scoliopteryx libatrix): These beautiful moths can be found from May through September across the United States and Canada, but appear to be most common in northern North America. The moths found in May overwintered as an adult and soon mate, lay eggs, and die. The one pictured here is newly emerged and will prepare to survive the cold winter, waiting for spring 2019 to arrive. The larvae (caterpillars) feed on leaves of poplar and willow.
