Family Field Trips at the Insectarium
Bring your whole family along for our newest program;
you’ll conduct an experiment and get to work with live beetles, together!
We often have programs just for kids and occasionally just for adults, but this time around we are hosting a program that the entire family can participate in! The program kicks off with exploration time in the Insectarium followed by a concise introduction to the procedures of the experiment and time to conduct your experiment as a family. Insectarium staff and volunteers will guide you throughout the experiment as you complete the lab and learn all about the wonders of beetle strength.
Friday 11/23, the Friday after Thanksgiving.
1:00 – 1:15: Check in window.
1:00 – 1:30: Exploration time in the Insectarium exhibit area.
1:30 – 1:45: Introduction and procedure review. Materials will be handed out and procedures for the experiment will be explained.
1:45 – 3:00: Conducting the experiment. Staff and volunteers will be present to support teams throughout the experiment.
The Bess Beetle Pulling Power experiment is designed to be conducted by teams of 2 – 5 participants. At least one participant in each team must be an adult. Larger families or groups can be split up into multiple teams so long as there is an adult in each team.
This program is suitable for kids ages 4 and up to participate in. Younger siblings are welcome to look on but should be well monitored by adults. There is no charge for siblings ages 3 and younger.
Kids 3 and under are still free but must be under parental supervision to avoid injury to our live specimens.
The price of the program includes admission to the Insectarium exhibit area.
