Home Range:  Southwestern United States and Northern Mexico
Habitat:  Desert areas. They are good diggers and live in burrows that they build themselves, generally in sandy washes.
Wild Diet:  Millipedes are detritivores, foraging for decaying organic material.
Life Span:  They can live for 10 or more years!
Interesting Fact:  If disturbed, the millipede will roll into a coil.  If further threatened, it exudes foul-tasting chemicals from openings along the sides of its body.  These noxious substances are the millipede’s only defense, since it does not bite.
