This massive moth was unfortunately found dead, likely hit by a car. Korey contacted us to confirm its identity and included some great pictures to show off its size. Black witch moths migrate from Mexico at the start of the rainy season (typically in June). They head northward, primarily through the western United States, and go as far as southern Canada. They can be regularly found throughout the year in southern Florida and southern Texas but are very rare in Montana.
