Unlike most moths, Alfalfa Loopers are active day and night. You may see them visiting flowers for nectar, as well as fluttering to lights at night. They are primarily found throughout much of the west (west of the Mississippi), from Alaska south to northern Mexico. Adults can be found in a variety of habitats from May to October in the north, suggesting multiple generations in one season. Caterpillars feed on a wide variety of plants. They particularly like alfalfa and peas, making them a potential crop pest.
