There are over 1,700 bees in this genus worldwide, making it the largest genus of bees. In North America, we have about 290 species. Sweat bees are small, ranging from about .08 inches to about .3 inches in length. Carolyn described it as “the TINIEST bee.” They range in color from black to dull green or blue and have bands of hair on their abdomen. As far as food, they are generalists, visiting a wide variety of flowers for pollen and nectar.
