A moth in the genus Fercula: We’re still trying to confirm the identification of this beautiful moth, but are confident it is in the genus Fercula. It is most likely either the Modest Furcula moth (Furcula modesta), also called the Modest Kitten, or the Zigzag Furcula Moth (Furcula scolopendrina), also called the Poplar Kitten. In either case, this is a very rare sighting in Montana! The caterpillars of both species feed on willow and poplar. Photo by Kathy McEldery on 6/10/18 in Plains, MT.
